Notes

Rebecca Purple was added to the CSS spec in 2014 in memory of Rebecca Meyer, the six-year-old daughter of CSS author Eric Meyer, who died of a brain tumour the day after her sixth birthday. Her favourite colour was purple; the working group accepted the proposal within days. It remains the only CSS colour added by community petition for personal reasons. The hex is a dignified mid-purple, darker than CSS Purple, and carries the weight of its history. Body text against white passes AAA at every standard size, which makes it usable as a primary type colour in long-form layouts where the gravitas suits the work.
